English 11
2016-2017 School Year:
Commonweath Charter Academy is a pubic cyber school that caters to the an individualized learning experience. Each student learns at their own pace, to address their own needs, to ensure optimal academic success. I'm a certified English teacher for grades 7-12, and I've been teaching American Literature, virtually, for the past 4 years. Since technology is at the heart of our learning environment (CCA), every year I look for new ways to incorporate Web 2.0 tools into the classroom.
This year so far, I really enjoyed using Smore.com, Google Hangouts , and NearPod for the first time with my students; I'm considering working more in Canvas too! Smore.com has been awesome. I used Smore as our weekly newsletter based on the content or concept learned during the week. I only used the trial for this year, but due to the great feedback, I'll consider purchasing a plan for next year (examples of some of my flyers are below). Google Hangouts has really been splendid. I use Google Hangouts to converse with my students and text message them. Since students these days feel more comfortable text messaging rather than conversing on the phone, it has been a great tool; it also saves me from using my personal cell phone. Lastly, Nearpod has really surprised me. I was afraid to use this tool at first because it was like holding another form of LiveLessons, but once I noticed students were motivated to participate, I was extremely happy. Our virtual field trip was amazing as well. I hope to use more and more new tools each year.
